Do you like to be near the water? If the answer is "yes," and you like to work with machines, then you might have a future as a Motorboat Mechanic. Motorboat mechanics and marine equipment mechanics often work outdoors at docks or marinas. They repair and maintain boat engines, propellers, steering mechanisms, marine plumbing, and other equipment.
Many motorboat mechanics learn their trade on the job, although employers prefer applicants who have formal training in small engine mechanics. It takes three to five years for a motorboat mechanic to become proficient in all aspects of the job. Much of a boat mechanic's knowledge of small engine repairs crosses over to motorcycle and outdoor power equipment as well.
The median hourly wage of motorboat mechanics was $14.74. In cold climates, the work can be seasonal, so you may need a plan for the winter months.
