The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, also called the FSEOG, is a need-based grant that is for undergraduate Pell Grant recipients. To qualify for the FSEOG you must have exceptional financial need. Like the Pell Grant, the FSEOG does not need to be repaid.

Award Amount and Payment Information

FSEOG recipients can receive anywhere from $100 to $4000. The award amount is determined by a number of factors including when your application is received, the extent of your financial need, the amount of your school's funding and the financial aid policies of your school. Your award is issued to you, directly from your school, in the form of a check or as a credit to your account or a combination of the two. Award payments are usually disbursed once per term (semester, trimester or quarter) but must be made at least twice an academic year.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be a US citizen.
  • You must be an undergraduate student.
  • You must be a Pell Grant recipient.
  • You must have exceptional financial need as determined by your application documents.

Preparation is Key

As you go through the financial aid application process, be sure to read documents carefully and contact your school's financial aid office with questions. Also, check out the US Department of Education website for an in-depth look at Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants.
