The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant is also called the National SMART Grant. The National SMART Grant is a merit-based grant designed for academically competitive 3rd and 4th year students with an interest in pursuing degrees in science, math or engineering.
Award Amount and Payment Information
The maximum amount an eligible 3rd or 4th year student can receive with a National SMART Grant is $4000. The total award amount of the National SMART Grant combined with the Pell Grant cannot exceed a student's overall costs to attend school. You may receive a lesser award amount depending on your particular school's program funds.
Eligibility Requirements
- You must be a US citizen.
- You must be a Pell Grant recipient.
- You must be a 3rd or 4th year student.
- You must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
- You must major in physical, life or computer sciences, mathematics, technology or engineering or foreign language as long as it is to be used in relation to national security
