4K video capabilities• However, OP is decent for low light noise is grainy and not so bad ; however, sometimes you get banding or moire small sensor faults. The DJI Osmo Pocket - OP - has been released more than 4 months ago. Both are not for sale here, yet. By having the small screen and rotating head, becomes great for selfie videos. It could be that Panasonic wanted to differentiate the two models, may be the readout speed, or the processor. I want to know what phone they're shooting with that supposedly matches the OSMO pockets video quality! And while fine tuning some of the pro settings like the white balance, exposure and color profiles can be done from the gimbal, the DJI app offers easier tweaking and more options. But the differences in quality are minor and the Osmo drops a lot of weight and equipment from your camera bag. I had to order one of these, it's freaking cool. I don't know what exactly is happening with the GH5 video processing pipeline, as I did not research that particular camera, especially since the stills comparison shows the problem is not in the sensor noise per se. However I am on the fence when it comes to buying this version 1. Since when did camera gear have to be for work? Both cameras also have a USB-C port that allows you to both quickly transfer footage to your phone or computer, and charge the battery — even while you're filming. It's almost a miniaturized version of the DJI Osmo 2. Yes, our phones can do shoot time lapses just fine, too, but motion time lapses are exclusive to a form factor as small as the Osmo Pocket. Perhaps the solution would be a rigid adaptor that provided a supporting bracket that connected the phone to the camera and removed the risk of accidental damage to the connector. 59 euro The audio input dongle 3. My biggest pet peeve are people complaining about low light performance but then provide either no footage to back up this claim or present a sample that is perfectly fine. Regular video and images can be slightly oversaturated with the default color profile, but there are other very good options to explore and most people like that slight oversaturation. I mention stills vs video because there is a large performance difference with the GH5s for video. Yes, because connecting it to a phone is optional. Osmo Pocket Final Verdict So the cost is reasonable for the capabilities. The physical connection to the phone is solid enough that I can hold the whole rig with one hand by the phone and capture footage without any problems - the Osmo Pocket has yet to disconnect on me. It still fits into our pocket. Attaching the phone and adding accessories defeats the purpose of its small size. It does however have more controls then even the 'control wheel' adapter. While ARRI Alexa is great for a movie, smaller videographers may find useful smaller and more versatile pieces of gear. Basically, lots of first generation design flaws but a really solid concept. When you say IS, I assume you are referring to EIS Electronic Image Stabilization. An aftermarket screen protector, case and gimbal protector are good investments to keep your camera safe if you use it a lot, and some cases have quarter-inch mounts that allow you to use an even wider range of accessories. The controls are finnicky, especially with gloves. This wand-shaped handle with a camera on top can also pan and track shots thanks to some nifty camera controls and smart software. I have to be honest though, this review seems pretty poor. Mainly shot using all the auto settings. Steadicam and its competitors still make rigs both large and small , but stabilization has made its way inside the cameras now. Consider for remote support so we can help you get the most out of your camera. The GoPro does edge ahead a bit here with its removable battery, which means you can easily pop in a spare and not be tethered to a battery pack when the battery dies. Hero 7 also doesnt suffer from a very average AF system. That became annoying during week three with this device. The built-in stabilization in the Osmo Pocket is ultimately what makes this gadget so appealing. The first main difference regarding the body of the Feiyu-Tech Pocket is the quarter-inch screw-hole on the bottom. Video The biggest draw of the Osmo Pocket is its ability to shoot stabilized 4K video footage at 30 or 60 fps. However, some of its best accessories didn't officially go on sale until 2019. Rickard - That unfortunately would detract from what I see as the main advantage of the unit, i. The fact that the battery is not user-replaceable concerned DJI fans when the Osmo Pocket was first announced. We used to have to carry them around without a choice. To me, the idea of not creating the noise in the first place rather than masking it is a better approach. One thing worth noting is the ease with which you can swap between photo and video modes on that touchscreen — which isn't always a good thing. Photography and videography doesn't have to be about smashing like or subscribe. My recommendations: 1 The Osmo Pocket needs a wrist strap attachment point. Not even the new Mavic 2 Pro can do this. Here is a comparison I remember from when the GH5s was released. Both cameras also shoot video at up to 4K60p, though the GoPro notably supports much higher frame rates at lower resolutions, going all the way up to 240fps in 1080p. I assume this is due to some framerate interpolation while rendering the video? For stills, it can produce JPG and DMG raw. Both cameras feature a built-in display for framing your shot, and each can mirror that feed to your phone for a larger display and a selection of manual controls. I see the GoPro 7 and the Osmo Pocket as a compliment to each other. It is much more practical than the DJI Osmo Mobile which I had before; there is really no comparison with a Samsung S7. There are two buttons that can press through the case, so you can cycling through modes, tap record, and re-center the camera with two presses. We cannot confirm, but the battery may even be swappable if you can get past the small screws on the bottom. It also seems like it could be a great starter camera for kids who have shown an interest in video production. The camera is housed inside a three-axis gimbal which keeps footage steady even as you're doing the walk and talk. Walking can cause more shake than most people are comfortable with on a stabilized rig, even at a regular pace. Dimensions: 121. This is why i feel the GP is better as you never get out of focus shots with it. I've used the Osmo Pocket for a few weeks now, and it really needs design improvements. I bought my Osmo Pocket to add to my growing collection of what I think of as ambient video clips. It would have been amazing if the Osmo Pocket just had built in WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity. This is a product for shooting with cinema level stabilization. The problem is that this is a moving gimbal, and the case has a finite ideal window of 90 degrees. Speaking three languages has opened up the world to him and influences the breadth of topics covered in his articles. Stills are very good quality for the size of camera, not at the level of a professional SLR or anything like that but definitely top-tier smartphone quality or better. The GoPro is, as always, specialized for action shots while the Osmo Pocket is more meant for deliberate and slow movements, but you can make either camera work beyond its intended purpose. Last year I was trying g to shoot with LGV30 on a gumball but as it was very windy phone was working as a sail and gumball could not keep it steady! All the reviews talk about how the Osmo Pocket can or can't benefit influencers, vloggers and other professionals self-identified or otherwise. In between waiting for 5-9 seconds each shot, with the OP, I got some amazing videos. I am speaking about video not stills and the GH5s is a lot cleaner at high ISOs than the GH5. DJI includes other modes, too. Menu structure is horrible - like action cams from 5 years ago, or today's Sony ones : On the whole I really like it. The Osmo Pocket is aimed primarily at vloggers, and the product's specs seem to reflect that. As far as the image quality itself, your preference will largely depend on your priorities. Its getting better, but still not as constant as the H7. The Osmo Pocket feels like a good option for capturing supplementary BTS footage on a big shoot or POV video stories for vloggers and influencers. An SD card is used for recording as opposed to the onboard storage that some other devices have. Although the quality of footage is similar to what you will get from a standard smartphone, the Osmo Pocket provides something that a smartphone simply can't do on its own: seamlessly smooth footage. The Osmo Pocket is its own niche, and it looks likely to stay that way for at least a little while. It is really small, and really pocket size 121. So to some extent, the review is correct -- great video camera for kids and BTS type footage If dropped, the connection is likely to just come apart, not likely to break. 3" CMOS sensor and the F2 lens are very similar to those found on standard smartphones and you can expect the images to look about the same. I noticed some panning shots have a weird jerkiness or uneveness to them when viewed on my 96hz monitor. Sticking the Osmo Pocket against a window with the USB-C cable hanging down the other side means the bright screen is more likely to reflect against the window. Most Vlogs are gear related at least the ones that get 1000's of subscribes. They have a good track record of supporting their products post-launch. 5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max allowed us to better fine tune shots and line up motion time lapses paths when we could juggle the extra screen using two hands. Touch screen controls What we'd like to see improved:• The handling is improved if you get an aftermarket bracket to mount it to the phone. I have since gotten some filters and use manual mode on the Osmo to produce some stunning pictures. Instead, it's better-suited for smooth, steady videos like a walk-and-talk vlogging shot or even a floating pan around a product. The mini gimbal cameras like the or are the perfect example. One thing I have found since then that is a valuable addition to the Osmo Pocket is ND filters. Here is an example of the video quality, albeit downsampled to 5mbps by Vimeo! I'm mainly a stills shooter, but having the tiny pocket in my bag, I was able to add video to my shoots which added a new dimension to my ability to capture the scene: These videos were shot with just the basic Osmo Pocket. No there should be no difference outside of perception. This is as close to turning Af off as possible. Our Verdict The DJI Osmo Pocket puts video stabilization in the palm of your hand, with a small camera that smooths out your footage thanks to a 3-axis gimbal. The camera stabilization of the Osmo Pocket is really its most impressive feature. There are a few different modes for the gimbal. The settings seem to occasionally reset or change for some reason. Combining data from multiple photo sites reduces the random component of noise. Unlike the GoPro and its action camera competitors, the Osmo Pocket is clearly not built for heavy-duty use. meaning you have to take all of those things off to put it away, and put them all back on when you pull the camera out. DJI Osmo Pocket positioned to be a handheld camera stabilizer for the mainstream, and that means we're seeing even more silky smooth video out there from average users because of it. But that was at least better than popping out our precious microSD card and losing all of our photos and videos. So, is the Feiyu-Tech Pocket a failure? Also the setup is still bigger and more awkward with something like DJI mobile than this. The accessory also includes two extra buttons, one for re-centering the camera, and the other for flipping the camera 180-degrees. Right now, it's on the storage case only. But the review downplays the positives of the camera -- No mention of the ability to do moving time lapse videos. It's annoying to have recorded a load of content only to later realise it was set to 1080p instead of the 4k you set it to the last time you used it. Slow motion Slow motion video from the Osmo Pocket is effective, but not outstanding next to 2019 smartphones. The layout is similar to the apps for larger Osmo cameras or Mavic drones. The Osmo Pocket doesn't try even to compete in this field — it's a gimbal, after all, you aren't going to clip it onto your longboard or your guitar's headstock. Every other mode we tested does track your face surprisingly well. Unfortunately, the Osmo Pocket seems to have trouble keeping up with fast moving subjects when shooting stills. To ensure that the connection between the Osmo Pocket and my phone was tight I had to remove my iPhone X from its protective case, which is a setup that I didn't find ideal. I got most of the accessories with it as well. But of course it's not as good as their full frame camera. But it still lasted an hour in our real-world tests. If I am not mistaken one can use the bottom usb port for connecting to the phone as well. DJI Osmo Pocket accessories We were able to test out a number of the DJI Osmo Pocket accessories for our review and, early on, TechRadar was one of the few sites to offer opinions on each of them. The Osmo Pocket delivers sound quality similar to what you would get with a smartphone. I'm talking about walking through a rainforest, watching sandpipers on the beach, capturing petals falling from the trees. High-end smartphones will have better low-light image quality than this, however, due to more sophisticated processing. Seems to lock on ok but the screen is so small its hard to tell if its on the correct subject. There are 3rd-party examples, but only one has a gimbal-protecting piece that some users say scratches the base of the gimbal, interfering with the rotation. It's easier to use than larger stabilizers and seems to be just as reliable, likely because the stabilization tech inside was initially created for keeping the cameras attached to drones stable. Therefore most of the talk centers around how well the camera focuses on somebody's face and how well they sound. And the phone connector reverses for easy storage— but if you store the phone in the new charging case, you have to remove the phone connector. It also has a more saturated look than the Osmo Pocket, which some may prefer for quick edits. And it gets noisy under low light fast. Additionally, being raised by a German mother, he spent a part of his childhood and also the beginning of his professional career in Germany where he worked as a Digital Strategist for adesta, a locally owned business in Darmstadt. Also not much to do with how the Osmo is as a product, it's more like saying that the camera strap is too short so therefore one less star lol. OP has its cons, but not these. The video stabilization of the OP is heads above any smart phone. We found the Osmo Pocket to offer smoother video, much faster transfer rates, and exclusive features like the motion time lapses and active face tracking. I have had mine for a couple of months now. Quality of pre-amp yet unknown. ISO 100-3200• There are ones available with Polarisers as well. 7mm equiv F2 lens 80 degrees FOV• I'm enjoying my Osmo Pocket, which I primarily use to shoot my RC airplane flights while mounted on my hat. He spends free time in his garden, in the mountains with his dog, and skis…a lot. The Bluetooth wireless module range is way too short. This version is really just for fun. I have the Go Pro Hero 7 and a toddler, and I've been amazed how smooth the stabilization is. The automatic tracking is excellent, and it works both in a selfie mode and in object tracking. The fact that there's no handy case that can hold the Osmo with the wheel attachment in combination with the flimsy gimbal is a huge issue, you just can't put it in your pocket period. Just came back from Antelope Canyon and my Osmo Pocket definitely saved the day. Just my impressions from having shot a few dozen hours of footage with it so far. Every shots required at least 5 seconds and there were hardly anytime to set up properly. handed the osmopocket to my 12 year old daughter to capture a video of the moment. This happened a lot on a sea shore on the beach. Stick with a GoPro or the DJI Osmo Action when under water. The number of attachments you add can definitely add to the cost, though. You have to go to the dji website to see compatible cell phones. It's so small that you could hold it to your chest, and most people probably wouldn't notice it. The camera head is mounted in a gimbal that moves to stay in contact with the horizon or an object you want to track. It will never replace a dedicated professional video setup or an action camera for those specific applications, but what it does give you is a highly capable and versatile handheld camera that you can literally carry in a pocket. In-camera stabilization• DJI offers different kits with accessories to add to the camera. No, it is on phone niveau but it makes it much more easy to produce non shaky content. This year I was in Myrtle Beach and used osmo. As far as putting a phone on a gimbal, well, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle for my iPhone 8. I have the Osmo Pocket and find it great for stuff like ski videos. Comparing the OP to a smart phone is comparing apples to watermelon. This is the major thing that competitors like the have going for them: they may lose more of the image because of their digital stabilization, but they allow for stabilization on all three axes. Using a gimbal, however, provides more stable video in low light situations. I also disagree with the conclusion that the video quality is not much different than a smart phone. With an optional attachement it's possible to operate the Osmo Pocket from your smartphone using the DJI Mimo app. It's searching through the entire range when you could just leave it on infinity and get perfect shots every time. Although the tech inside the camera and the gimbal aren't particularly revolutionary, the Osmo Pocket is unique because it combines these two products into one, creating a single pocket-sized product that produces quality footage quickly. You are correct and I agree that noise is not directly related to resolution. 5 mm adapter isn't for sale yet. Cons are rather weak sound, and small screen, imho. We found the standard gimbal buttons to be soft and mushy without a good tactical confirmation for multiple presses, so having the extra hard buttons on the Control Wheel dedicated to selfie and re-center made life easier. also works seamlessly, which is a change from launch. Samsung even has a neat Auto Mode to trigger the slow motion effect when it detects motion in a pre-set square. We did see some expected noise at higher ISOs at night and during slow motion 1080p video at 120 per second, which we also noticed was cropped. How many junky cameras are they going to stick on one before they wake up? This is all not to mention that the GoPro has many other features as well. They sell a 'control wheel' adapter and it's functionality seems to make it a mandatory buy. Time lapse and motion lapse This is our new favorite way to shoot time-lapse videos. Our tests at a full charge showed that it met that standard — without any gimbal movement. A new unit fixed the problem completely and we DJI said it did fix the rare issue of our first Osmo Pocket review unit. But to achieve that stabilization these camera will crop out parts of the image digitally or optically, a completely different process to the way that old stabilization rigs worked. - Is the Osmo coupled to a phone a better solution than a phone on a gimbal? Flipping the camera with three presses is fairly pointless here. Ultimately, both cameras are fantastic ways to get smooth and stable video without relying entirely on your phone or carrying a heavy, bulky DSLR. It comes with 2 adapters, for Android and Apple phones. And the color profile is good. If the case had a bubble dome shape to it, this would have worked a lot better. Will upload soon All in all a handy device if your on the move and don't have time for elaborate setups each time for video, grabbing the cam and getting stabalised video capture within seconds is well worth the money Beautiful shots and looks like an awesome vacation. 48 KHz AAC audio output Operation The Osmo Pocket only has two buttons making stand alone operation very straightforward. In our testing, we found video to be more fluid than the GoPro Hero 7 and have less barrel distortion. DJI Osmo Pocket Control Wheel — Recommended To get the best pan and tilt motion while recording video, opt for the Control Wheel. The mini-gimbal is controlled through the proprietary app. I picked up the pocket the day before a business trip to Bangladesh, and the compact size and simplicity is where the pocket shines. But this square-shaped screen shows a cropped frame by default, so it doesn't have a true-to-life live view of everything you're capturing. There are definitely a few negatives. For starters, the smartphone attachment is tiny — during my time shooting with the Osmo Pocket I misplaced this accessory and the plastic cover that slides off a number of times. I own the Osmo Pocket and an iPhone XS, and besides the stabiliation, the quality of the video capture is noticeably better, even when using similar bit rates which has to be done with third party apps on the iPhone. Overall the Feiyu-Tech is a nice camera, but the Osmo has a much better color science and audio, and those are two key factors. Not configurable with a micro USB phone; you must have USB-C. Powering the Osmo Pocket without this accessory is next to impossible due to the bottom USB-C port.。 。
