Careers in Nursing

LPNs, LVNs, RNs, BSNs

There are several levels of nursing qualifications. Depending on their level of education, people with a career in nursing may be:

LPNs and LVNs may hold either a nursing diploma or a 2-year associate degree in nursing. RNs typically hold at least an associate of science degree in nursing and, with their higher level of education, also have a higher level of responsibility and challenge in their jobs than LPNs/LVNs. More people work as RNs than any other health care job, and future employment opportunities are excellent.

Experienced nurses can advance to supervisory positions and, with additional education, RNs may move on to a career in nursing education or nursing services administration.

CNAs, PCTs

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) provide basic nursing care to patients. As nurses' aides, they are considered part of the nursing team.

Nursing Education is the Key to a Steady Job
