CourseAdvisor Joins The Washington Post Company!

On October 11, 2007, The Washington Post Company (NYSE:WPO) acquired the outstanding stock of CourseAdvisor, and we couldn't be happier. This follows a small investment The Washington Post Company had made in 2006 and is a testament to the relationship that has been established by our two organizations since then. Since our founding in 2004, CourseAdvisor has grown to be one of the largest online education directories with more than 2.5 million visitors per month. Now, we're part of one of the country's great media organizations.

The Washington Post Company
Founded in the 1800s, these days The Washington Post Company is a diversified media and education company. The Post's principal operations include newspaper and magazine publishing, educational and career services, television broadcasting, cable television systems, and electronic information services. In addition to the Washington Post, the company owns Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), the online publishing subsidiary whose flagship products include washingtonpost.com, Newsweek.com, Slate, BudgetTravel.com and Sprig.com; Express; El Tiempo Latino; The Gazette and Southern Maryland newspapers; The Herald (Everett, WA); Newsweek magazine; Post-Newsweek Stations (Detroit, Houston, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio and Jacksonville); and Cable ONE, serving subscribers in midwestern, western and southern states.

The Washington Post Company and CourseAdvisor: Responsible Corporate Citizens
Another thing that attracted us to the Post was the company's people. An important goal of The Washington Post Company is to be a responsible corporate citizen, and there are many ways they (now we) contribute to the communities in which we do business. The company and its operating divisions give more than $5 million annually to a variety of worthy organizations and initiatives. Contributions are concentrated in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Civic and Community Services
  • Health and Human Services
  • Culture and Art
  • Matching Gifts

CourseAdvisor Looks Forward to Changes
We expect there will be changes to our little start-up and we will embrace them, since being part of the Post family should make CourseAdvisor an even stronger company and a key resource for people seeking to enrich their lives through higher education.
