Multimedia Artist and Animator

You've probably noticed that some electronic games capture your interest immediately while others seem flat and boring. It may have to do with how well the game is animated. The images on the screen have everything to do with the look and feel of a game or website. There are three types of 3-D artists who work together to build state-of-the-art graphics:

  • Character artist and animator - Create creatures and human-like figures and make them move
  • Background artist or modeler - Create the backgrounds or settings for games
  • Texture artist - Create the surface detail of objects that appear on the screen

Multimedia applications are becoming more and more sophisticated, and as a result the typical multimedia artist and animator has formal training in fine arts or related areas. A good aptitude for geometry and knowledge of modeling and animation software are essential.

An experienced multimedia artist or animator can expect to make about $50,000 a year.
