Web Designer

A web designer, or web author, create the text, graphics, sound, and links for Internet sites. The skills a web designer needs are:

  • Designing user interfaces
  • Writing content
  • Laying out text and graphic screen elements
  • Incorporating sound and art into web pages
  • Linking website components

Website development is a growing industry, and often web designers work as independent contractors or for design firms. A web designer develops web pages for traditional businesses and other organizations that wish to have an Internet presence as well as e-businesses.

Web designers have a variety of backgrounds, but many hone their writing skills, artistic technique, and technical knowledge at four-year colleges, community colleges, and art schools. The salary range for a web designer is $25,000 to $35,000.
